Thanksgiving Mass

It’s my joy to announce to you that on June 2nd, 10:00 AM, at St Barbaras in Powell, a Mass of Thanksgiving and First Blessings will be celebrated by newly ordained Fr. Marty Adams, FSSP.

When a priest celebrates his First Mass after ordination, it is an opportunity for the faithful in attendance to gain a plenary indulgence if all the usual conditions are met. Holy Mother Church updated this tradition by granting a plenary indulgence to all first Masses the priest celebrates. The additional first Masses are sometimes called Masses of Thanksgiving.

Although not a plenary indulgence, an additional grace may be gained from receiving the First Blessing of a newly ordained priest. First Blessings are customarily given when first Masses are celebrated, and may continue to be given up to a full year after ordination.

Please make time to take advantage of this truly unique opportunity and welcome Fr. Adams as he starts this journey into his vocation. And, spread the good news!

God Bless,

Dave

Rorate Masses

RORATE MASSES

The Rorate Mass is a traditional Advent devotion wherein the Mass of the Blessed Virgin Mary for Advent is offered just before dawn. In many instances families and individuals travel an hour or more, rising and arriving very early for this stunningly beautiful Mass. The interplay of light and darkness speak to the meaning of Advent and the coming of the Light of the world.

The Mass takes its title, Rorate Caeli, from the first words of the Introit, which are from Isaiah 45:8: “Rorate, caeli, desuper, et nubes pluant justum, aperiatur terra, et germinet Salvatorem.”

“Drop down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain the just: let the earth be opened and bud forth a Saviour.”

The Rorate Mass is lit only by candlelight. Because it is a votive Mass in Mary’s honor, white vestments are worn instead of Advent violet. In the dimly lit setting, priests and faithful prepare to honor the Light of the world, Who is soon to be born, and offer praise to God for the gift of Our Lady. As the Mass proceeds and sunrise approaches, the church becomes progressively brighter, illumined by the sun as our Faith is illumined by Christ.

The readings and prayers of the Mass foretell the prophecy of the Virgin who would bear a Son called Emmanuel, and call on all to raise the gates of their hearts and their societies to let Christ the King enter; asking for the grace to receive eternal life by the merits of the Incarnation and saving Resurrection of Our Lord.

Two parishes will be offering Rorate Masses in our diocese this year:

Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Lander: December 9, 7:00 a.m.

St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Cody: Advent Day of Recollection, December 9, 7:00 a.m.

7:00 a.m. Rorate Mass
8:45 a.m. Breakfast
9:45 a.m. Practical Applications for Spiritual Growth During Advent
11:00 a.m. Scriptural Rosary

May God Reward You!

Special Marian Masses in Honor of the Centenary of Our Lady of Fatima [UPDATED]

On May 13, 2017, Very Rev. Vern Clark offered a High Mass at St. Anthony’s in Cody, which was followed by a procession, a public recitation of the Rosary, a consecration to the Blessed Mother, and St. John Paul II’s prayer to Our Lady of Fatima. Over 200 people were in attendance. Laus Deo et Mariae!

Fr. Clark has announced that the centenary of Fatima will continue to be observed by means of a monthly traditional Latin Mass on (or near) the 13th of each month, with Marian devotions.

On June 13, July 13, September 13, and October 13, the events will be held at St. Anthony’s in Cody, with the following schedule:

[NOTE SCHEDULE CHANGE]

5:00 pm: Holy Rosary
5:30 pm: Holy Mass
After Mass: Potluck dinner & DVD presentation of Our Lady, Queen of Heaven (Ascension Press)

Note that at the July 13th Mass, the Pilgrim virgin Statue of our Lady of Fatima will be at St. Anthony’s.

In August, this Marian observance will take place on the 15th instead, in honor of the Solemnity of the Assumption. (Details about August 15th forthcoming.)
